A Note from the Director of Youth & Families
Do a good turn daily. That is the Boy Scout slogan and what every scout tries to model. If you have been involved in scouting, you know how important this is! After I received my Eagle Scout, I found that my slogan changed from every day to every week and from every week to every month. Eventually my slogan became “Do a good turn every once in a while.” How sad!
I feel that the same has happened during the Christmas season. I just need to check off my box of helping someone out and never thinking about it again. Well, not this year. After doing some SERIOUS self-reflecting, I am going to help someone in some way every day during Advent. But I refuse to just help and walk away. I want to know WHO I am helping and HOW I can keep helping (whether that is prayer or in another way). I don’t want to stay in the habit of forgetting who I am helping, because Jesus didn’t. I don’t want to receive more than I give.
I challenge you to not just check boxes during this season. Be intentional with each interaction you have. Share a meal with someone. Help someone load up their groceries. Have a conversation with their best interest in mind. Do a good turn daily, because that is what we are called to do!
